Part-Time Music Director

 

First Baptist Church of Hampton (FBCH) is seeking to hire a part-time Music Director: The Music Director reports to the Minister of Music of First Baptist Church of Hampton (“FBCH”) and is responsible for leading the members of the Worship Band.  The Music Director will minister during the Sunday Morning Worship Services and all special services such as funerals and weddings as directed by the Minister of Music.  The position entails administrative and musical responsibilities and requires participation in a variety of church activities as needed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Serving as lead and directing the instrumentalists of the Worship Band for all Sunday Morning Worship Services
  • Scheduling, planning, and leading the Worship Band rehearsals and Worship Services
  • Ensuring that all music is prepared
  • Keeping the Minister of Music and other team members informed of all relevant information and issues
  • Responding promptly to all emails and voice messages received from the Minister of Music in a timely manner
  • Maintaining a spirit of excellence and an environment of professionalism, service, hospitality, and consistency
  • Attending all team meetings, retreats, conferences, trainings, and other events as required
  • Performing all other duties as assigned by the Minister of Music

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music and/or a minimum of five years experience in Church Music leadership with specificity in instrumental leadership
  • Demonstration of proficiency on the piano/keyboard and Hammond B3 organ across a variety of genres
  • Strong knowledge of music instrument technology, such as MIDI Interfacing
  • Demonstration of proficiency with live sound technology and associated electronics
  • Ability to offer effective musical support of the preached word
  • Commitment to executing all tasks and assignments at the highest achievable level of excellence
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and perform duties in a mature, professional, and disciplined manner
  • Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; able to multi-task and prioritize
  • Must be mature, honest, trustworthy and use sound judgment at all times
  • Must demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and the ability to be flexible and creative
  • Must be a team player and be able to effectively work under pressure while maintaining a pleasant, positive, and professional demeanor
  • Must be available to work flexible hours when necessary
  • Must understand the importance of confidentiality
  • Must possess the capacity and sensitivity to work with diverse groups and individuals
